What is the inspiration behind your artwork?
The idea began with the pony club members who had spent countless hours grooming and clipping the ponies, gathering loose strands of horsehair without really thinking much of it at the time. But those small, repetitive moments shared laughter in the tack room, friendly competitions over who could plait the neatest mane, the quiet pride of caring for the ponies slowly built into something more meaningful. One afternoon, as they sat together surrounded by bits of cardboard and the collected horsehair, the idea sparked: why not create a horse of their own? Not a real one, but something that captured the spirit of all the ponies they loved. Cardboard became the body, shaped carefully with imagination and teamwork, while the saved horsehair, once simply brushed away was transformed into a coat and mane that gave their creation life. What inspired them wasn’t just creativity, but a desire to hold onto the moments that made their time together special. Each strand of hair carried a memory: the grooming and plaiting with the comfort of leaning against a pony who seemed to understand everything without words. By using real horsehair, they weren’t just building a model they were weaving their experiences directly into it. The finished horse stood as more than a craft project. It became a symbol of friendship, patience, and shared passion. Its slightly uneven shape and handmade details only added to its charm, reflecting the imperfect but joyful nature of their time at pony club. Every time they looked at it, they didn’t just see cardboard and hair they saw the ponies they loved, the work they shared, and the laughter that made it all unforgettable.
