What is the inspiration behind your artwork?
I created this picture to beautifully capture the essence of nature and the changing seasons through the imagery of Popcorn the pony and I hacking at Wetley Moor Common in Staffordshire Moorlands, as this is our favourite place to be. I wanted the picture to create a sense of peace and adventure, blending the natural world with the companionship of horse riding.
It was important to me to show a harmonious landscape filled with life, such as the birds nesting in trees, rabbits exploring the undergrowth, and a variety of plants blooming with vibrant colors. This is what I notice the most when Popcorn and I hack at the common. I gave careful attention to detail, from the fallen autumn leaves to the cobwebs spun between logs, highlighting the magic found in every season that I feel when riding Popcorn. The golden sun illuminates the summer scene casting a warm glow over the rolling hills and lush greenery, while Popcorn and I navigate the terrain, symbolising the joy and freedom of exploring the great outdoors together.
I wanted my picture to not just be about the beauty of nature but also the special bond between Popcorn and I. Just like we do, I wanted the the viewer to appreciate the simple yet profound moments found in nature, whether it’s the rustling of leaves underfoot, the crisp winter air, or the melody of birdsong echoing through the trees.
