Explore your Insurance Benefits with Howden
Being part of The Pony Club means being part of a wide and varied equestrian community. Howden arranges insurance for The Pony Club, helping to protect Members, volunteers and Branches while they take part in Pony Club activities. Our role is to make that cover easier to understand, help you see what is already included and support you where additional protection may be required.
Explore what is included
Pony Club Members automatically receive third-party public liability insurance for equestrian activities, up to a limit of £30 million.
The cover available depends on the type of membership held. Branch and Centre Plus Members are covered on a 24-hour basis for the ownership and use of a horse or pony. Centre Members are covered for their use, but not ownership, of a horse or pony. Non-Riding Members are covered at Pony Club events or when representing The Pony Club.
Subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, this cover will help where a Member is held legally liable for injury to another person or damage to someone else’s property. For example, if a horse damages a vehicle or causes an injury that prevents someone from working, the ember could be responsible for repair costs, compensation or loss of earnings. It’s these costs that the public liability insurance is there to protect.
If you are involved in an incident that could lead to a claim against you, this should be reported to Howden as soon as possible. It is also important that you do not admit liability.
Supporting the people behind Pony Club activity
Volunteers are also insured for third-party public liability while carrying out activities on behalf of The Pony Club, including duties performed as a committee member, judge, steward or occasional volunteer. Coaches are covered while coaching at Pony Club events. However, freelance coaches who teach outside those events will need their own freelance coaching insurance. Howden can help arrange this cover.
Understand where additional cover may help
It’s key to understand both what is included and what sits outside the policy. Third-party liability cover does not protect against damage to your own property, property in your care, or injury to you or a family member. It also does not cover the use of a horse or pony for hire or reward, or incidents arising while working within a business.
Members do not receive any personal accident benefit through their membership of The Pony Club. However, embers can obtain personal accident cover through our Howden branch network by contacting Howden Life & Heath on 01242 537073.
Protecting the wider equestrian picture
Insurance needs may extend beyond the cover arranged through The Pony Club. If you require protection for your property, facilities, equipment, liabilities for non-Pony Club activities, coaching and other equestrian assets, Howden can advise on a range of cover and, where a standard policy is not the right fit, explore alternative options based on the risks involved.
