What is the inspiration behind your artwork?
This piece of art was inspired by a photo of my friends and I which was taken about thirteen years ago by our parents. Every year it pops up on Facebook as a ‘memory’ and the comments revive with phrases such as ‘the good old times’. But it genuinely was. Now my friends and I are at separate universities, dotted about the country I feel so fortunate I can look back on my younger pony club days with such joy and know I still carry those friendships and memories with me today as a senior member. The choice of a watercolour background mirrors the faded haze of memories whilst the horses still remain clear in the mind. I used a mixture of watercolour and acrylics for the horses and riders to add detail and bold colours. In stronger lighting than displayed in the picture the colours are more vibrant (unfortunately I failed to photograph this successfully without a shadow!).
