BBC Recognise Pony Club Christmas Stars Penny & Bob
Wife and husband duo Penny and Bob Ridley of Saddleworth & District Pony Club have dedicated themselves for the last 40 years to the Members of their Branch, becoming an invaluable part of the local community. This Christmas, their hard work and dedication has been recognised by BBC Northwest Tonight, who recently awarded the couple with a Christmas Star!
Penny and Bob started their journey when their own daughters Gemma and Nicola joined as Members, volunteering at Camps and other events. Fast-forward 25 years later, after retiring as a Domestic Science teacher Penny became District Commissioner, spearheading the Branch for over 10 years until 2019.
Even after stepping down as DC, Penny continued to volunteer and teach at the Branch, particularly in assisting numerous young Members in achieving their Road Rider badges. Penny is at the forefront of organising their Pony Club Camp, heading up catering and even instigating the first Mini Camp.
Penny’s husband Bob has also cemented his position as part of the furniture at the Branch. Whether he is setting up jumps, cleaning up after the ponies or assisting a Member, Bob is always around to be a friendly face and a helping hand. Throughout Penny’s Pony Club career, Bob has supported her and the Branch simultaneously.
With seemingly unlimited energy, years of dedication and outstanding contribution to the local equestrian community, we are thrilled to celebrate Penny and Bob’s achievements and thank them for their long years of service. Congratulations to both on achieving this fantastic award!
