Meet Talk, the ‘£2 Pony!’
‘‘Talk’ is a 15.1h part-bred Arab gelding who is 22 years old. Talk was originally bought by Carys’ Nan earlier this year; his previous owner had lost interest over the years so he had been out on loan to various homes, but was always sent back for being too much of a handful and very rude. When his previous owner left for university Talk was sat in the field, so her parents were looking for a more permanent home for him. Carys’ Nan bought him for £1 as a companion for an older pony in her field.’
‘At this time, Carys was busy taking part in Pony Club activities with her adored horse, Blue. In May this year, Blue suddenly became very unwell and was diagnosed with lymphoma. The speed in which Blue deteriorated took us all by surprise and after being examined by multiple vets, he sadly had to be put to sleep at the start of June. To add to our sadness, Carys’ first pony, Fury, who she had started her Pony Club journey with back in 2017, also had to be put to sleep, two weeks to the day after we lost Blue. The vets had found a large mass pushing on his intestines. Carys was and still is absolutely devastated by losing her two best friends.’
‘July arrived and Carys had been booked to go to the annual Pony Club Camp and had no horse to ride. Talk had been passed to Carys by her Nan after finding that Talk really was a handful and completely unsuitable. He was overweight and a handful in every way that you can think of! She was determined to take Talk to camp with her, so off they went having only managed a quick ride around the field together beforehand.’
‘Carys thoroughly enjoyed herself at Pony Club camp. Talk bounced everywhere with her and certainly kept Carys on her toes throughout the week. Seeing potential and the start of a lovely partnership, Carys bought Talk from her Nan for £2, and since then has completely devoted herself to working with him.’
‘In October, representing Curre Hunt Pony Club in her first Pony Club competition with Talk, they went and won the 80cm Barrier Animal Health Spring Festival Arena Eventing Area qualifiers and placed third in the 90cm class. In November, Carys and Talk qualified in the 90cm Barrier Animal Health Spring Festival Show Jumping Area qualifiers.’
‘To watch them together after such a period of sadness is just amazing! We’ve spent months looking for a new friend for Carys to enjoy all Pony Club activities but haven’t been able to afford the prices currently asked. Who would have thought that the £2 horse would help to make Carys’ dreams come true?’
‘We are so pleased that Talk and Carys have found each other and we can’t wait to see them at the Barrier Animal Health Spring Festival next year!’
