PCIA Virtual Dressage Competition
In 1980 the Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) was formed to bring independent Pony Club organisations together and is now an association of the following Pony Clubs:
- UK Pony Club
- Pony Club Australia
- Pony Club New Zealand
- Pony Club South Africa
- Pony Club Hong Kong
- US Pony Club
- Canadian Pony Club
One of the ways these organisations come together is through a Virtual Dressage Competition, which has been running since 2021.
Training Challenge
This year a Training Challenge was introduced which saw teams participating in two rounds with the objective for each team to improve its score by taking on judges’ feedback and practicing the test between round one and round two.
Congratulations to our selected members taking part in the Training Challenge:
- Class 1 – Training Level, members aged 14 and under
- Maddie Caunt, Hambledon Hunt (North)
- Millie Warnes, Atherstone
- Tabitha Brake, Woodland Hunt
- Rose Chugg-Martin, Cotswold Vale Farmers’ Hunt
Some very high individual placings in both rounds helped the team in Class 1 to win the Team Competition, with Tabitha winning most improved.
- Class 2 – Prix Caprilli, members any age
- Phoebe Crutchlow, Atherstone
- Rosie-May Colborne, Lakefield Equestrian Centre
Our members in Class 2 joined with two other members from other countries to form an International mixed team and came second, with Phoebe also coming second in most improved.
Competition
The Training Challenge was closely followed by the PCIA Dressage Competition with four classes available for which we are invited to send a team of four for each. Pony Club members can be nominated to take part if they meet the class eligibility and will be selected by the Dressage Committee based on the submission of a scoresheet of the member riding the specified PC Dressage test.
Congratulations to our selected members:
- Class 3 – First Level, members aged 18 and under
- Grace Clarke, Berkeley Hunt
- Matilda Hind, Burghley
- Maddie Caunt, Hambledon Hunt (North)
- Isla Willmington, East Devon Hunt
With a winning test from Grace, and Isla following closely behind in second, the UK gained another first place in the team competition.
- Class 4 – Second Level, members aged 25 and under
- Lily Clarke, Berkeley Hunt
- Lauren Bendell, Hambledon Hunt (North)
- Charlotte Mackley, Essex Hunt North
- Ellie El Khamlichi, Atherstone
Some great tests helped the UK team in Class 4 (the highest level we compete at in the UK Pony Club) to come second.
- Class 6 – Freestyle First Level, no age restriction
- Grace Drummond, Beaufort Hunt
- Lilly Davies, Vale of Aylesbury Hunt
- Frankie Torode, Guernsey
- Philippa Brickell, Duke of Buccleuch’s Hunt
The Freestyle to Music class was for individuals only but it was the first year that we sent the full four UK competitors and they all put on a great show!
Thank You!
Thank you to the organisers (with input from United States Pony Club, Hong Kong Pony Club, New Zealand Pony Club and The Pony Club UK), to the judges from all around the world, to Agria for their support of the UK teams and individuals, and thank you and congratulations to our members who represented The Pony Club UK so well!
