Get Involved in Endurance
Endurance riding is open to all Pony Club members, whether you are already involved in other Pony Club sports or have yet to try any. It’s an activity that anyone can give a go. Endurance riding is particularly great for younger members who ride alongside their parents or older siblings, as it’s the only sport where you can participate with someone else (who isn’t on the same team, such as in PX, Polo, or MG). It’s also ideal for older members looking to improve their horse’s fitness for Eventing and Tetrathlon, as well as to enhance their horse’s bravery and balance through riding in the open countryside. Endurance is also money well spent as you will be riding for several hours as opposed to just a few minutes like in Dressage and Show Jumping!
While your horse or pony should be fit for any of the nine Pony Club sports, they don’t need additional fitness to participate in Endurance. A horse that is ridden for 45-60 minutes, three to four times a week, should be more than capable of completing a 20km Endurance ride!
Why not add an Endurance ride to your 2025 To-Do list and join the many riders from across the country already taking part? For an extra challenge, bring a friend from your Branch or Centre along so you can both enjoy the experience together. Riders from all over the country are already participating; from South Northumberland in Area 2 to the Brecon & Talybont Branch in Area 10, the Thetford Chase in Area 8, and the Stevenstone & Torrington Farmers in Area 16 – so there’s no reason not to join in! There’s a ride near you waiting for you to enter. Plus, all Pony Club members receive FREE Club membership with EGB, allowing you to enter any Pleasure or National ride as a Temporary Day Member. Visit www.endurancegb.co.uk for more information.
The success of Alice, Leola, and Scarlett is an inspiration to all Pony Club Members looking to challenge themselves and their ponies in endurance riding. We look forward to seeing even more Members take part in the coming seasons!
