Mounted Games

Study Days

What are Mounted Games Study Days?

Mounted Games Study Days are aimed to inform members, trainers and parents of the rules for the games to be played in that year. They are a great opportunity for everyone to see the new Area and Zone games for the forthcoming season and there is always a Pony Club Official on hand to answer any queries.

For the 2024/25 season, an Official’s Study Day is scheduled for November 3rd, exclusively for the MG Committee and Area Coordinators. After this date, Regional Study Days may be organised; however, they will only qualify as CPD for attending coaches if they are led by an Official who attended the Study Day on November 3rd.

Becoming a Mounted Games Trainer

To start training a Branch or Centre team or pairs you will first need to be listed on the Pony Club Coaching Database. To achieve this, you need to meet the Coaching criteria and liaise with the Branch District Commissioner or Centre Proprietor.

Pony Racing

Pony Racing CPD

Pony Racing ‘Train the Trainers Days’ are aimed to inform coaches of activities they can carry out with members to learn more about the sport (hopefully with the view to progressing to the Race Days).

The Days are run in conjunction with the Pony Racing Authority as part of the Pony Racing Pathway of activities.

The next Train the Trainers will be held on 27th November 2024 at the British Racing School.

Tetrathlon

Tetrathlon Shooting Courses

Below are the accepted shooting courses to be a Pony Club Range Conducting Officer, and Shoot Instructor.

It is recommended (and will become mandatory in 2025 Rulebook) that when hosting Pony Club shooting (Training or Competition), a qualified Range Conducting Officer (RCO) should be present. This is the person that is responsible for the safety of the shooting event. We also recommend that you have an NSRA qualified shooting instructor present as well. Please note that even with a qualified shoot instructor, the NSRA recommend that you also have an RCO present. The RCO will have the responsibility of following the shooting protocol which is detailed in the Pony Club Tetrathlon Rulebook.

There are two types of qualifications – a Range Conducting Officer (RCO) and a Shooting Instructor. The National Small-Bore Rifle Association (NSRA) are the Governing Body.

To become an RCO you must be over 21 years of age.

PC110 Training Days for Wellington Winners

Members finishing in the top 10 at the PC110 Championships, and the top 5 in the Chairman’s Cup are invited to a two day training course with Gill Watson, kindly funded by the Eloise and Katie Memorial Trust. In 2025, the training is being held in April at the Fox-Pitt Eventing yard. Thank you to Gill, the Fox-Pitts and the Plunkett family for their ongoing support.

Eventing and Tetrathlon Organiser’s Study Day

These days are aimed at anyone organising a Tetrathlon or Eventing event, such as Branches, Branch Officials, and Area Organisers. These events have received glowing feedback in the past and aim to cover all topics regarding the organising and running of an event with a cross country phase. The days include a course walk with a course builder or TA, organiser roles and responsibilities, online scoring and control and risk assessments.
