Half Term Polo Round Up
Feb 2026: Despite the wet, the mud and the cold, Pony Club Polo had an extremely busy half term week. Our intrepid members braved the elements and joined in force many of the pony club hosted events. These ranged from starter training sessions in new areas of the country, to new higher level training for our senior players and pretty much everything in between. This was all in addition to the existing tournament schedule with 15 teams playing at the Valentines Tournament.
Half term training kicked off on Tuesday 17th Feb at Druid’s Lodge Polo in Wiltshire (Area 14) hosting training for all levels. The day started with a 3 hour Taster Day and followed in the afternoon by training sessions with HPA instructor, Giles Ormerod for firstly novice and then our more experienced senior players. In all 31 children participated. It was a fantastic day which everyone both enjoyed and learnt a lot. On Sunday 22nd Feb at Leadenham Polo Club, Lincolnshire (Area 6) we had 24 children join a Taster polo day (with a further 9 waitlisted). The children were shown with hand mallets how to swing and hit the ball, had a go on the wooden horse, learnt about polo tack and then headed into the arena to learn how to ride a polo pony, hit a ball and culminating in their first ever chukka. Old Berks Pony Club also hosted two half terms session for those on fluffies (jorrocks and HX) and Minninooka Pony Club Polo Centre held both ridden training and an online session. Prior to half term there was also a RA under 14’s training session at Tedworth.

The Valentines tournament at Tedworth Park Polo was on a brutally cold, but thankfully dry Thursday 19th Feb. The children, despite the freezing conditions, performed brilliantly with the 15 teams competing across JOPPs, Surtees 3, 2 and 1 sections as well as Loriner. Well done to all. Particularly to the North Warwickshire team who made the long journey from Offchurch Bury to their first ever PC tournament. A selection of fantastic prizes were very kindly donated by Emita Polo www.emitapolo.com.
