BLUE CROSS
HORSE & PONY CARE

The competition features teams of three Members who demonstrate their knowledge and practical horsemanship skills taken from the Pony Club Efficiency Tests over a number of rounds.

Question Levels:

  • Minis – based on the Care section of the E, D and easier parts of the D+ Efficiency Test cards and Mini Horsemanship Achievement Badges. At the National Championships a small number of questions will cover all of the D+ syllabus.
  • Juniors – based on the Care section of the D, D+, C and easier parts of the C+ Efficiency Test cards and Horsemanship Achievement Badges. At the National Championships a small number of questions will cover Advanced Achievement Badges and all of the C+ syllabus.
  • Seniors – based on the Care section of the C+, B and AH Efficiency Test cards. Questions at AH Test level should be used sparingly as not all Branches/Centres will have AH Test level competitors.

Qualification:

  • Teams compete at their Area Competition with the aim to qualify for the Championships.
  • Horse and Pony Care competitions are run in each area between May and July.
  • The teams can be either Branch Teams, Centre teams, or mixed Area teams (can be a mix of Branches and Centres).
  • The winning team from each section of the Area Competition will qualify for the Championships. Any Area with 10 or more teams competing in a section will have two guaranteed qualifying spaces, 15 or more teams in a section will have 3 guaranteed qualifying spaces.
  • Should space allow, more teams may be invited to the National Championships at the Organiser’s discretion.
  • 1 original qualifying team member must compete at the National Championships (only 2 substitutions available), unless there are extenuating circumstances.

MOUNTED GAMES

Qualification Routes and Eligibility:

Please see the qualification routes in the image on the right.

  • You will need a team of five from the same Branch or Centre as you.
  • Under the age of 11? You can compete as a Junior.
  • Under the age of 15? You can compete as a Senior.

If you are under 19 (and older than 11), and still want to have a go, you can compete as a pair with just one other member.

If you are really struggling to find a team of five from your Branch/Centre alone, ask your DC/Centre Proprietor to contact the Mounted Games Area Coordinator in your Area – if another Branch is in the same situation, you can join with them to create a Combined Team – however you will not be able to compete at the Championships.

POLOCROSSE

Two sections of three players play against each other with the aim to score the most goals, usually described as a combination of Polo and Lacrosse.

Qualification:

Speak to your DC or Centre Proprietor about taking part in polocrosse rallies and training. Your Polocrosse Area Coordinator can also help.

There are different levels of PC Polocrosse based on member age and pony height:

Mini – members 12 years and under and horses 138cm and under.

Junior – members 15 years and under and horses any height.

Senior – members any age and horses 138cm and over.

There are different levels of PC Show Jumping based on fence height, previous experience and ability:

  • PC70 (for members aged 13 and under on 1st January)

TETRATHLON

Tetrathlon  is a team and individual competition comprised of Shooting, Swimming, Running and Riding.

Qualification:

To be entered into Area competitions, each branch does it differently, so members and their parents/guardians need to keep in touch with their sports team managers and their DCs if they want to put themselves forward for an Area competition.

Some Branches may have rules about number of rallies or competitions someone has done before they go to an Area event.

At the JCB Pony Club Championships for Tetrathlon, the competition levels consist of:

  • The Open Team Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Open Individual Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Open Mixed Gender Team Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Intermediate Team Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Intermediate Individual Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Intermediate Mixed Gender Team Competition (25 and Under)
  • The Junior Team Competition (14 and Under)
  • The Junior Individual Competition (14 and Under)
  • The Junior Mixed Gender Team Competition (14 and Under)
  • Mixed Area Teams
  • Stepping stones – have to be chosen for their regional team.

These are teams of 4 or 5 and can be a mix of boys and girls. Stepping stones do not ‘Qualify’ for Champs, as they are chosen by Regional Managers before Champs.

Regional team managers take into account a lot of factors to choose teams, including previous competition scores, area, availability etc. They can enter 2 teams per region to the stepping stones competition.

Please view the image for criteria of the competition levels, as per the 2024 Tetrathlon Rulebook.
