The Duke of Edinburgh 1921 - 2021
We are saddened to hear the Duke of Edinburgh, former president of The Pony Club and founder of Pony Club Mounted Games ("The Prince Philip Cup") has died today. We send our condolences to the Royal Family and we have continued gratitude for the ongoing support received from our Patron HRH the Princess Royal.
Mounted Games would not exist if it were not for Prince Philip. Passionate about young people’s ability to access the world of equestrian sport without an expensive, well-bred pony, Prince Philip devised the Mounted Games which started in 1957 at The Horse of the Year Show.
“The Pony Club will be eternally grateful for Prince Philip’s vision for our sport. As Chairman of Mounted Games I am passionate about the accessibility and the comradery Mounted Games offers so many Members. Having started my Pony Club journey in this sport I have had the pleasure of watching so many Members develop their horsemanship skills and team work over the years. We have hundreds of teams that compete around the world and the pinnacle of the event season is always The Prince Philip Cup competition, Mounted Games truly is full of fun and friendship!
The Duke of Edinburgh has left a great legacy at The Pony Club and we will continue to uphold the values he brought to the sport all those years ago”
