What skills are involved in your job?

Individuals working in the sector at all levels – from employee to owner manager - are invited to match their job role, knowledge and skills with a comprehensive list available online at www.lantra.co.uk/jobconsulter.

The project is set to record the diversity of knowledge and skills used across the sector – not just the technical skills but all skills ranging from health and safety to customer care and management.  The information will feed into the ongoing development of skills, training and qualifications to better match industries’ needs.  It will also help to improve careers information and dispel some of the misconceptions about what is involved in a career in the sector.

Lantra Chairman, Dr Gordon McGlone OBE, said:  The project will consolidate our knowledge of all 17 environmental and land-based industries and ensure we portray the breadth of skills, jobs and careers across the sector.

Working with industry, Lantra has drawn up a comprehensive list of over 400 generic job roles covering all 17 industries and accounting for all types of organisation from the self-employed and micro businesses through to larger organisations such as national welfare charities.

The consultation has been made easier using a new online Job Consulter which uses a simple tick box approach to record feedback.

Gordon  continued:  “Now we are looking for individuals who work in the sector to let us know if we’ve got it right or not – and if not what needs to be corrected.  We would like everyone who can access the website to look at the range of job titles, find the one which best fits their job, then view the list of skills to identify which ones they use.”

Anyone working in the environmental and land-based sector across the UK – whatever job they do, whether an employee, manager, director, proprietor or owner - is urged to take part in this online consultation, which can be accessed via the Lantra website www.lantra.co.uk/jobconsulter
