Urky Newton Bursary

The Urky Newton Bursary is in memory of the Hon. Mrs R. L. Newton

'Urky' had been District Commissioner, Branch Secretary and was the Area Representative for Area 6 (East Midlands) for many years. She was also a member of the Horse Trials, Show Jumping and Dressage Committees. Her real passion was cross country riding in all its facets, but especially hunting to hounds, which she felt, was the very best education for riding cross-country. She would have approved of the Bursary, because the selection for it is based on cross country riding, about which she was so knowledgeable and passionate.

The 2007 Urky Newton Bursary Winner is Suzannah Brownlie from the East Lothian Branch. Congratulations on winning this prestigious award. Suzannah will recieve one weeks tuition from a top Instructor nominated by the Eventing Committee.

The Bursary was started in 1996 at the request of her family and was instigated by her nephew Mr. Arthur Packard

The the Bursary is awarded to the Pony Club Member who, in the opinion of the Judges appointed by the Eventing Committee, has ridden the most competent horsemanship round on the cross country course at the Championships.  The recipient is selected from those who do a clear round within the time.
