Forest Ride for Route Hunt branch of the Pony Club.
Last weekend, in glorious weather, members and parents of the Route Hunt branch of the Pony Club enjoyed a leisurely ride through Cam forest. Two trails had been prepared by Mike Alcorn, a 2 mile route suitable for the younger members and a 7 mile trail for the older members. The riders in groups or 3 or 4, having been advised of the routes to take, set off at intervals from 1pm till 2.30pm, some taking longer than others to complete their chosen trail! Many parents walked and accompanied the children on the shorter trail with a valiant few taking on the 7 mile route. One 4x4 did overtake a group of riders on the 7 mile route but the identity of the occupants will remain secret!
All riders were clocked in on their return to base and each received a chocolate egg for their efforts! To further revive any lagging spirits, Vicki Cameron Mitchell was on hand with her trusty bar-b-queue, and provided burgers and refreshments for riders, walkers and passengers!
Mike, with help from Mitch and Sam, then collected up all the obstacles and jumps that had been positioned at key points along the course and made sure no-one had been left in the woods!
Everyone agreed that this was something they would like to do again soon and many thanks must go to Mike and Vicki for organising this very enjoyable day out.
The Route branch is now preparing their programme of activities from Easter to September, which includes dressage league, X-country rallies, and the weekly field activities which begin in May. During the Easter holidays some members will be taking their D, D+ and C tests and the training for the Riding & Road Safety test begins in April. Training for the tetrathlon competitions is on-going with shooting, running and swimming practices weekly and the keen show jumpers are already competing at local and national competitions.
The Route branch have a team of young members, (Cate Cameron-Mitchell, Anna White, Hollie Williamson and Jenyth Evans), taking part in the UK final of the Pony Club quiz, on April 1st at Moreton Morell in England and Anna White is also representing the branch at the same venue, in the Dengie final of the winter show jumping league. We wish them every success in the competitions and we are confident that they will be exemplary ambassadors for our branch.
New members are always welcome and for further information on joining, contact the membership secretary: Mrs Wilma Laverty, Tel: 27666522.
