Success at Area 8 ODE

Three members of the Littleport Pony Club took part in the Area 8 ODE Qualifier at Isleham on Sunday 10th August as individuals.

Alix Palmer came 2nd in her section of the Intermediate class following a personal best dressage score, and will now take part in the Mitsubishi Motors Pony Club Eventing Championships to be held at Draycott House, Derbyshire on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st August. This is a very prestigious event and I'm sure we all join to congratulate her and wish her well at the Championships.

Rhea Macleod came a very creditable 7th in her section of the Intermediate class, just missing a place. Frankie was quite on her toes for the dressage, but managed a clear round in the show jumping and clear in the XC although with a few time penalties.

Polly West was going very well in the Open class, with a very good dressage test and just one down in the show jumping. Unfortunately there was a serious accident on the XC course, resulting in a delay of over an hour and by the time Polly got to ride her horse had gone off the boil. After having completed half the course, Polly decided to retire as the horse was clearly not feeling his usual self.

Littleport PC would have loved to have entered a team for this competition, but with people on holiday and horses being out of action, we just couldn't find four riders with the suitable experience. Hopefully next year we will be able to enter a team, or perhaps a team for each of the classes! Please do come forward if you would like to be considered for the teams.

Thank you also to Tina for her help and advice on the day.       more pictures

Milton Park One Day Event on May 18th

Larger picture
Five members of LPC rode at the Fitzwilliam PC ODE, which was held at Milton park on Sunday 18th May. Teams could only be four people, so Nikki Hopkin rode as an individual leaving the following to enter as the LPC team.
Tessa Watterson
Emily Dickson
Rosie Peck
Phoebe Mozejko

It was lovely day out, but even though everybody in the team completed all three stages of the event, unfortunately the team did not get placed. However Phoebe came 3rd in her section and Rosie came 5th in her's. Click on the small picture to see a larger version.

LPC and the Area Quiz on March 7th

The first round took place on Friday 7th March. We had two teams entered, one at Prickwillow Village Hall where LPC were the hosts and the other at Beccles. The team competing at Prickwillow won their heat and are now through to the next round. Very well done to Kayleigh Shepperson, Abigail Runciman, Rhea Macleod and Chloe Saberton. The team competing at Beccles were running third until near the end of the quiz, but finished the competition in fourth place. A good effort from Maddison Retallick, Rosie Peck, Victoria White and Claudia Maclean.

LPC at the ILPH SJ Competition on February 12th

Littleport Pony Club entered two teams, each of four riders, at the ILPH show jumping competition on February 12th. Lucy Morley also competed, but as an individual club member. As can be seen in some of the photographs, it was so foggy at the start of the day you couldn't see across the warm up area! However the weather improved and surely this helped everyone's enthusiasm.

Team 1 Michaela Thulborn, Natalie Mellers, Rosie Peck and Nikki Hopkin. Lucy Morley rode as an individual club member.
Team 2 Polly West, Rhea Macleod, Claudia Maclean and Beth Runciman

The first class for team one was 2'3". Michaela, Natalie and Rosie each ended on eight faults, whilst Nikki collected just four. Lucy went clear and so took part in the jump off, where she had just one down.
The second class was not quite so tidy for Michaela with Morgan, but Natalie and Rosie ended the round on just four faults each whilst Nikki had a clear round. Nikki also went clear in the jump off and was placed 6th overall. Very well done Nikki.

In the first round for team two, everyone went clear except Polly, and she had one down. Littleport were one of the few teams needed for the jump off, and were told only the clear rounds compete as the competitor with the most faults gets dropped. Anyway, this is when it all got muddled as Rhea had warmed up to go first but was announced as Polly, then Claudia went as Beth, then Beth as Claudia! Polly did get to do the jump off, but she was announced as Rhea. The team had a great laugh at such a muddle, but then when they announced Littleport as the winners, the team was over the moon. That has definitely put Littleport on the map. There were twenty three other Pony Clubs Competing that day.
The next class didn't go so well, the horses were tired (so were the riders) and a few fences were knocked down. This meant the team didn't have a low enough total to be in the running for a place. A blessing in disguise as it meant we could load up and go home as by this time it was about 4 pm. We didn't get home 'till 5.30.

Very well done to all the girls, and hopefully we can get some more Pony Club team and individual places under our belts in the coming months.

Many thanks to Emma West and to Anita and Michaela Thulborn for providing write-up on the day's show jumping, my apologies for mangling their text into a single article. Many thanks also to Zoe Wilsher for very kindly providing photographs of the day.

ILPH "Make a noise" campaign

The ILPH are running a campaign to stop the terrible suffering of horses as they are illegally transported within Europe.  If you would like to help the ILPH, visit the Make A Noise section of their web site and join the campaign.

(BHS) CountrySide Rights Of Way Act

The BHS launched a petition on the Prime Minister's web site, asking that horses are taken into account in any future access legislation.  In Wales and Scotland, riders will be getting rights to beaches and the coast, but in England the Government is only considering walkers at the moment.  More information from the BHS is available here.  Although the petition is now closed, you can still read about it on the PM's web site.
